All lessons are privately held in the comfort of your own home and the dog’s own environment, including but not limited to the yard, neighborhood and locally in public.

With each training package, the training lessons start with the dog trainer and the dog(s) unless otherwise specified to build a solid foundation with low to medium environmental distractions.

This is important during the desensitization and learning process in order to set your dog up for success and to get the most out of each lesson.

During the lessons without the owners present, the dog trainer will demonstrate and explain the training process & progress while giving homework in between lessons by filming 1-3 minute videos.

These videos are uploaded to a private folder and sent as a link with unlimited access.

At the end of each package, the dog trainer will pre-book 1-2 transfer sessions, so the owners are present during the lessons to demonstrate everything that was learned by the dog in the training process.

The dog trainer will test the owner(s) to see if they have been doing their homework, make corrections if needed, and answer any questions in order to maintain the positive behaviors that were learned during the training process.

All dog training is done by the owner, Sara who has over 20 years of professional experience.

TRAINING METHOD & PHILOSOPHY

  • When dogs of any age display unwanted behaviors on and off property, it can be due to various reasons.

  • The one thing all bad behaviors have in common is a lack of leadership.

  • Humans and animals thrive off of structure, order, clear rules, and boundaries.

  • When there are no boundaries, rules, order, or structure, it results in destructive, dangerous behavior and chaos for everyone in the household.

  • This is the same for children in the household, school, the workplace, pack hierarchy, etc.

  • Dogs are very black and white, as they know how to be a dog by their natural instincts.

  • Humans tend to be wishy-washy, indecisive, unclear, anxious, and inconsistent.

  • Poor leadership can result in anxious & fearful behavior, then unruly or even aggressive behavior.

  • You know that saying Jesus take the wheel?

  • Dogs want us to take over and tell them what to do.

  • They feel more confident and comfortable when we lead, ordering their steps.

  • In nature, for example, in a wolf pack, there is an appointed leader, the alpha male.

  • His role is to keep order in the pack by demonstrating strong, confident leadership, rules, boundaries, and clear communication through his actions and body language.

  •  If you watch the alpha male's behavior, demeanor, and character, he is always very calm, cool, and collected. He is always quiet and reserved but very confident in a humble way.

  •  He exerts his authority over the pack only when necessary to avoid unwanted bad behavior that could disrupt or cause danger to the pack.

  • He has a very important role, and if he doesn’t have strong confident leadership skills, the whole pack will fall apart and result in pure chaos.

  • Dogs, just like kids, will offer up bad behavior to test to see where they stand with you, to see what they can and cannot get away with, and to also test to see if they can feel safe with you as their leader.

  • Once the dog knows it cannot get away with bad behavior, it learns to respect you and offer up good behavior.

  • The dog learns that if I do this, I get that. A reward, that is.

  • There is a time and place for reward & positive reinforcement, and a time and place for correction.

  • Corrections can vary. Some can be verbal.

  • The tone of your voice, not volume, can tell a dog a lot.

  • Your body language can correct a dog.

  • Body language and body posture are actually how dogs communicate.

  • Sometimes, minor leash corrections are necessary if the dog is displaying unpleasant or even dangerous behavior.

  • Some dogs are very headstrong, and if you don’t get their attention, they can easily get overstimulated and escalate into aggressive behavior.

  • The idea is to correct the behavior when the dog is thinking about it before they act on it.

  • Interrupt the behavior before it happens, then replace the bad behavior with the good behavior until the dog automatically offers the good behavior that was taught.

  • We have been using these methods for quite a while and have found much success with them for both the owner and the dog.
